Monthly Minute-June & July Recap

HI FRIENDS! Long time, no talk! I hope you have all been eating up every second of summer! Since June, I’ve been a liiiitle MIA on the blog, but I am BACK and ready to get some new posts together for you! I’ve said before, this blog is a personal space for me to connect with the community we’ve created, so before just launching into new blog posts, I wanted to give you a little recap on what I’ve been up to and where I’ve been the last month! SO, read on for my Monthly Minute-June & July Recap!

Monthly Minute: June Recap

Where to begin! I haven’t done a Monthly Minute in…well, a minute! Honestly, I don’t think I thought to write a recap post for June because it was pretty uneventful! I had been substitute teaching since December, so I wrapped that up and got to work for my two part-time remote jobs! Really hitting the ground running in my remote jobs was probably the most exciting part of June. School ending did make me feel like it was summer vacation and being able to eat up some time at home while also working was perfect!

Working from home definitely came with a period of adjustment, as I figured out a schedule that worked for me. My biggest problems with working from home have been setting work/life boundaries and distraction. Either I want to stop working early or find myself picking up my computer after 5 o’clock and working after dinner. Figuring out the best schedule for me is something that I’m working on, is ever-changing, and something I’ll be writing a new post on soon!

I spent a week on a ‘stay-cation’ while house/puppy sitting for my aunt! It was the perfect change of scenery. I was able to work from there every day, enjoy some puppy love, and soak up some sun. Some of my best friends came to spend time with me at the pool and going out to dinner, catching up. While I was there, I really kicked up my summer reading which is still going strong (more on that later)!

I also tried my hand at online dating for the first time this month and I CAN confirm, it is the worst.

Monthly Minute- July Recap

In July, I set foot in a theatre and saw a live performance for the first time since the pandemic started! Throughout July, I spent some time going back to my alma mater, DeSales University, that hosts the PA Shakespeare Festival, where I spent three summers as an acting intern! It was really nice to go back, see some of my friends perform, and reconnect with some of the people I had met in my time working there. There is nothing like live theatre and seeing it in a place that is so near and dear to my heart was awesome.

On the topic of theatre, my mom and I went into New York for a day this month! I hadn’t been to the city since December of 2019, so it was really great/strange to be there again. I did some pretty exciting stuff while we were there; my heart felt very full. In addition to working remotely, I’ve also kept up with auditioning and submitting for shows online. Keeping the theatre career alive (trying, anyway)!

I reached my goal of 2K followers on Instagram! 2K may not seem huge, but it was a number I set for myself at the start of 2021. I’m proud to say I’ve surpassed it! Honestly, no, I’m not going to downplay 2K followers. It may seem like a small number in my mind because I follow people with 10K+ followers. But imagine being in a room with all the people who follow you. Whether that number is 50, 100, 1,000 or 10,000- that is impressive.

Once I reached my goal, I took about two weeks off from posting and actively showing up on Instagram. “Experts” say you have to show up consistently and engage, but I truthfully just felt burnt out. I had been creating posts, graphics, captions, etc. nonstop. People don’t realize all that goes in to making a social media space cohesive and successful. I felt like I was glued to my phone, looking to see how many people had watched/seen my posts. I’m thankful that I’m self-aware enough to know when enough is enough and take a break!

Monthly Minute-June & July Recap

Going Forward & Exciting News

We made it through the first week of August! I’m excited to get back on track and find a better balance between work, social media, and blog posting! I started off this month on a much better foot than July and remembered to set goals and intentions for myself.

My university is holding an in-person graduation for the class of 2020 at the end of this week! It’ll be nice to fiiiiiinally close that chapter. Some of my best college girlfriends and I are spending the weekend together, so I can’t wait for that! Annnnd drumroll for the most exciting bit of news I have to share…….

I booked my first show since graduating from college and the pandemic!

A week from tomorrow, I’ll be heading to my first real contract since performing professionally in college and I feel so excited, overwhelmed, and so so grateful!

I can already tell August is going to be an amazing month! Look for some new blog posts coming your way soon, and as always follow along with the day-to-day of it all over on my Instagram!

Love you lots!

March Monthly Review

Hi my friends!

Another month in the books! I know for many, March 2021 brought up a lot of unresolved emotions and feelings about being in the pandemic for a year, but I hope you feel proud to say that you’ve made it this far, you made it through, and you are gracefully moving forward!

As usual, I’m back with my Monthly Minute- March Monthly Review! I’m so excited to share my monthly goals with you and some of my favorite’s in this monthly review!

I guess it’s the 31 days, but this month has really felt like it’s gone on for a lifetime! SO much has happened this month so let’s dive right in to my monthly review!

Monthly Review!

March Monthly Minute
Monthly Review

March was a packed month for me! In addition to work, I was actually able to get some time to be a real person in her 20’s this month, and that time was MUCH needed. I got to sing at a dear friend’s wedding this month with my best friend, Kailey! The wedding was held at our university, so it was really beautiful to get to go back there and be part of something so intimate and special. Since we were singing, we decided to make a weekend out of it! I spent the weekend at Kailey’s and we were later joined by one of my other best friends, Bella! Kailey is a photographer, so we spent time capturing some creative content for me, she took new headshots for Bella and I, and we got to do a really fun and gorgeous shoot! Then we just went to dinner, paraded around a Target, and lived like we were just a couple of college girls. It truly was a much needed escape from every day life!

I also got my vaccine this month! Yahoo! I got the single dose shot which rocked, and I only had a headache, body aches, and a low-grade fever for 24 hours. I feel really grateful to be vaccinated and I’m grateful that my immediate family members were also all able to get vaccinated. A year later, here we are!

And the fun isn’t over! Remember about a year ago when I wrote my post “The Show Must Go On” about not being able to perform in my senior showcase in New York last spring? Well IT’S HAPPENING! Just in a different way! This past weekend, my friends and I all gathered on campus again, got tested and all, and were able to film the showcase to be sent a year later! I’m going to write more about this experience in a post next month, but feel free to read last year’s post to get caught up on the saga!

Goals

No lie, I fell off the wagon in terms of my goals this month- IT HAPPENS! Unfortunately, I got sick right in the middle of the month for the first time in over a year and it really knocked me on my butt. I spent a lot of time just trying to keep myself healthy so I could get well fast because of all I had going on! A handful of my goals included singing more, keeping up with my Dance From Home Classes, staying off my phone…and honestly, I didn’t do so well with all of that.

At the start of the month, I had to miss 2 classes of DFH a week because I was teaching dance classes of my own- no biggie. Then I got sick which didn’t really allow me to sing or get my sick butt in class. I spent a period of a few days feeling down about it, but I was actually really proud of how I took care of myself when I wasn’t feeling well.

In college, my life and schedule were always go, go, go, and sometimes I had to sacrifice proper rest to get assignments done, get into rehearsals, or I just didn’t rest well because I felt like I was an indestructible college student. But this time around, I really took the time to baby myself. I went to work, came home, and RESTED. I took a whole day off later that week to get myself better, got an antibiotic, and rested every second I possibly could. It was a really nice change of pace. There was no way I could’ve predicted getting sick or could have predicted I wouldn’t get to be in classes as much this month, but it’s called rolling with the punches, people!

Blog Goals

March Monthly Minute
Monthly Review

Looking at my blog goals for this monthly review, I am pleased to say that grow is slow and steady! I set 5 goals for myself for this month and was able to accomplish 4 of them! I’ve been setting what I think are rather attainable goals for my online presence and the blog every month and so far, I’ve met most of them each month! My follower count on here is growing, my follower count on Instagram is growing, I’m in contact with and reaching out to more brands, and I’m ahead of the game in my planning. It feels great to say that. I also upgraded my blog plan this month! I was waiting until I reached my 1 year mark in May, but there was a sale on plans and I had to take advantage of it while I could!

With my upgrade, I have more tools for things like SEO and I’m able to add more plugins that will help me make the site the best that it can be! I appreciate every single one of you who are on this journey with me! My 50th post is coming up next month and we are almost at the 1 year mark, so stay tuned for lots of amazing and exciting things!

It’s so inspirational, informative, and heart warming- the perfect read for anyone who may need a little added boost in their personal and professional lives! I highly recommend checking it out!

February Round Up

February Round Up

Hellooooo!

The second month of 2021 is in the books! How are you doing, how are you feeling? Is 2021 just 2020 in a wig? Who’s to say. BUT if you’re reading this post, you’ve at least made it this far!

To be completely transparent, this month kicked my butt royally. Many tears were shed. Growing into “adulthood” is hard. Period. Particularly in the last few weeks, I’ve felt really out of sorts and like I’m just pulling myself through. I’m grateful to have such a strong support system though, which has made this tough month a lot more bearable.

I’m sure that many of you 20-something’s can totally relate to what I’m feeling- this impending sense of “now what do I do?” My theatre artist friends in particular. I’m happy to have any job(s) at all right now, but not being able to truly do what I love, or even something close, is difficult and disheartening. My feeling of frustration comes from a deep passion for the art that I love and not being willing to give up on that dream. Frustration and passions don’t seem like they fit together in the same sentence like that, but it’s hard when you want to pursue what you love, that industry is not really happening, and you’ve got bills and student loans hanging over your head (although, bless that extension). All this is to say: if you are reading this and this struggle continues to sting or hit you harder this month like it did me- I see you. I hear you. You are not alone, and we will find a way.

ANYWAY.

Let’s talk about February goals. Since I started writing monthly goals for myself back in June, I’ve noticed 2 things. 1.) my list of goals gets longer every month and 2.) even though my list has more goals on it, they are smaller, more tangible goals. I’m starting to get really specific about what I’d like to accomplish or implement in my life each month and the more specific I am, the more I can plan to take steps of action towards reaching those goals. I guess I’m also just learning more about myself, my routine, and what I can handle month to month! Going back and reviewing the goals I’ve set in past months has illuminated a lot about my growth process, and the goal setting/reviewing process is something I look forward to every month.

Some of my goals for February that I crushed were

  • Keep not looking at who views my Insta story
    • A little background. I will admit, I’m aware it’s REAL unhealthy, but I pay attention to my follower count and who is viewing my stories or not. I mostly pay attention to the follower count mainly because I am trying really hard to grow my brand online, gain exposure, and reach the goals I set on that front. But looking at who views my stories has been an additional struggle in my battle of “worrying what other people are doing or thinking.” I would find that I could still see when people I had muted (for my own mental sanity) had viewed my story, then I would look at their story if they had one…which defeated the purpose of having those people muted…a viscous cycle. SO, I’ve made it a goal to not view my story views and I’ve done really well!
  • Stay consistent with my Dance From Home Classes πŸ™‚
  • Try not to spend on anything other than necessities (bill/birthdays)
    • Although I did spend a little on others things, I really did well with this this month
  • Read 1-2 books πŸ™‚

Now, some things I didn’t quite crush…

  • Doing yoga 2-3x per week
    • I did do a decent amount of yoga this month, but not consistently like this every week
  • Actually stay off of my phone until my limits are up/once the limit starts πŸ™
  • Less junk food, more water
    • Nailed the water, not so much the food…

Here were my blog goals!

  • Gain 5-10 new blog followers πŸ™‚
  • Reach 1,600 followers on Instagram (or close to that) πŸ™‚
  • Reach out to 1-2 brands πŸ™‚
  • Work on Pinterest :/
  • Get ahead on plans and content :/
  • Post more consistently πŸ™‚

Let’s move on to my favorites from this month!

Books

Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah

Y’all. This book. THIS BOOK! You must read it, it was so good- good doesn’t even describe how good it was. I thought it was exceptional. If you are a friend, daughter, mother, sister…you need to read it. I was so invested in the characters and their stories and I literally sobbed when I finished it. I can’t wait for all my friends to read it. Apparently, there is a sequel book and I NEED to get it pronto. Don’t walk, RUN to get this one.

Go Down Together: The Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde by Jeff Guinn

I’m reading this one currently! I am lowkey obsessed with the story of Bonnie and Clyde, and I’ve had this book on my shelf for many, many years but never made it all the way through. Once I finished Firefly Land, I picked this one up and decided to give it another shot! The first time I tried to read it I think I was too young to fully grasp the writing and the story, so it’s much more interesting to me now!

TV

Firefly Lane: The Series

DO. NOT. WATCH. I feel very passionate about this. If you are going to watch, you need to read the book first. And I hate to tell you, if you do that, you will be extremely disappointed by the show. It is absolutely nothing like the book, it’s infuriating. I don’t know if anyone else gets this heated when tv/movies are entirely different from the book, but I do. I was so excited to watch the show right after finishing the book, since it just came out, and I was so disappointed. I watched the whole season because I was semi invested in this entirely new story they decided to tell, but I would 1,000% recommend just reading the book and leaving the show well enough alone.

Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel

I just started this! I can’t speak to the quality of the show too much just yet, but it’s freaky for sure!

Other

Tik Tok

So…I’m late. LOL. Seriously, I’m light years behind. But I finally took the plunge and made a Tik Tok and my mom and I have really enjoyed sitting and watching videos together and cracking up. I only have 4 videos so far, 3 of which are singing, so we’ll see where this goes! I’m excited to create new content, just have to find the right spark! You can follow me @angelalarose1026

Be on the lookout next month for some cool and exciting collaborations with some brands and products that I LOVE!

As we finish up February and head into March, I will be participating in Lent leading up to Easter in April! Every year I give something up, and usually it’s the same thing…C H I P S. I still gave up chips this year, but I also am giving up social media time before bed and always hitting ignore when my time limit comes up! I’m hoping this will help me sleep better and turn my mind off a bit more before heading to bed. Here’s hoping!

You made it through another month as we come up on the one-year mark of this “new” pandemic world. But what matters is that you made it through to see the other side of this month, and you will press on into a new one!

I hope your March is as lucky as ever!

Lots of Love

January Monthly Minute

January Round-Up

Hello, friends!

We’ve survived the first month of 2021! We have a new President, a new LADY Vice President. There is hope! While a new year and a new month cannot erase the scars left by the year-that-shall-not-be-named, I hope, nonetheless, that your year is off to a great start!

These monthly round posts are always some of my favorite to write because they help me take time to reflect on the smaller moments that make up the grand scheme of things. Going forward in this year, I encourage you to try to do this as well. I love to plan and look ahead, that’s part of who I am, but learning how to break my year down into months and my months down into weeks have infinitely helped me stay in the moment more while still allowing me to look ahead. Just not on such a grand, large scale!

January always feels like it lasts for an eternity, and this year the month was no different. At first, I felt like there was momentum but about right in the middle of the month I felt things slow down. That’s probably because I had started to better settle into the new routines I set out to establish in this new year. Let me tell you a bit about my January!

If I had to land on a word that would describe my January it would probably be ‘accountability,’ as I started a few new things that would require me to demand accountability from myself, for myself. First, I joined The Ensemble Membership with Dance From Home (check out my Passion Piece Feature with the owner of Dance From Home, Megan Bowen, HERE)! This meant that I would be taking 2 dance classes and 2 dance cardio/ strengthening classes a week. I was really excited and anxious to bring dance and activity back into my life in a more intentional way and being part of the membership has been completely worth it. This did, however, require discipline- because it’s been a minute since I had a regularly show up for myself like this.

I have always been one to start something like this and never finish it. I said it. But, for many reasons, I wanted to push myself in this first month of a new year and a new venture to stop making excuses. Every time I felt like not showing up to a class, I showed up. It was hard after a long day at work to bring myself to class sometimes, but I did it because I knew I would feel much better when it was finished. Some days, I struggled and had to really modify. Some days, my mind and body surprised me in how well they showed up for me. It was a move I didn’t know I needed to make, but I’m so glad I did.

I also took part in Yoga with Adriene’s 30-Day Yoga Journey that she curates every January. This year, the theme was Breath. It was my first year taking part in the journey as a new yoga teacher myself; the depth and growth I was able to cultivate in the daily practice was incredible. I love yoga so very much, but this, too, was still a challenge in dedication and discipline for me! Because I was also taking the classes with Dance From Home every night, I had to do the yoga videos in the morning before work- most days at around 6am (you can see why getting my a** to those dance classes was a little tough sometimes lol). As you’re reading this, I’m in the final week of the challenge!

Because I wanted to approach this 30-day journey in a new way, I decided to put together an accountability group for any friends of mine who were looking to take part in the challenge and wanted to feel the support of a closer community. I had about 9 girls join the group, and we communicated almost every day- keeping each other accountable and on track. I loved having a group to go to myself, because even though I was “leading” the group, I needed them for accountability just as much as they needed me. It was beautiful to see women from many different corners of my life all come together to practice yoga and support one another- whether they had met before or not!

I am SO proud of myself- I accomplished almost all the personal and blog goals I set for myself this month! None of them were huge goals, all little things for myself, but the fact that I stayed committed to them makes me very happy. I’m hoping to carry this momentum with me into February and the rest of 2021!

Now, onto some things I LOVED this month!

  • Bridgerton (Netflix)….DUH

    • I had been searching for a vitamin C serum for a while, and I found this one at CVS! It’s affordable, smells SO yummy, and makes my skin look bright and beautiful!

Habits

  • Keeping my stainless-steel water bottle on my night stand- first thing I would do when I woke up was drink water to get things moving and grooving in my body! Still cold from the night before!
  • Setting time limits on my phone!!! Never before 8 and never after 11!…now I just have to…stick to it…

There you have it! JANUARY! Like I said before, the start of a new year and a new month can’t erase what our world is going through or what I’ve gone through personally since last March, but I do feel like having this little bit of a fresh start set me on a new and promising path! I feel a little bit lighter and I feel like I’m starting to cultivate better behaviors that will serve me physically, mentally, and spiritually in 2021. Here’s to carrying this energy through for the next 11 months! We can do hard things!

Next week is FEBRUARY! If you want to grab the blog’s February Freebie, The February Self-Love Journal, head to the homepage and subscribe with an email!

November Round Up

November Round Up

Hello!!!

Holy gumdrops, it’s almost DECEMBER! I hope you all had the most amazing and SAFE Thankgivings! It’s so hard for me to even grasp that we are on our way to CHRISTMAS. Honestly, even though 2020 has been an absolute dumpster fire, it really has flown by!

I don’t know about you, but now that the year is coming to a close, I find myself sitting with the thought of where I was this time last year. Like, holy crap, talk about change. I do try really hard not to get too caught up in thoughts of “pre-pandemic” times, but it’s wild to me that we all knew 2020 would be big, but never in a million years did anyone expect all the events that transpired.

I don’t want to get too deep or too invested in a recap of the year (that’s for December content, wink wink), but it is important that we take a moment to recognize the growth I know we have all made in one way or another in 2020. Hello, if this pandemic hadn’t happened, I don’t think I would have been sitting here writing this for you, and you wouldn’t be sitting here reading it! Starting the blog was one event this year for me that set me on a new path that ultimately led me down so many other avenues that I hope to continue to pursue.

Setting my monthly goals for myself was something I DID NOT DO prior to starting the blog. So, showing up for myself (and for you all with these recaps) is something I am really proud of! SO, on that note, let’s hop into my November Round Up!

First of all, HUGE step for me and the blog…we reached 100 followers this month!!! Grow with the blog has been slow and steady since I started it back in May but having 100 people who follow and subscribe wasn’t something I had anticipated achieving in my first year! So, if you’re reading this, a huge thank you to YOU for your support! I also wanted to create a new freebie for subscribers, get ahead on content, and land at least 1 partnership with a brand, all of which I accomplished!

In my personal life this month, I wanted to work on my physical health a bit! I’ve always been very active because of my involvement with theatre and dance, but I’ll be honest…working out has not always been my favorite thing to do. I love yoga, and because of my teacher training I’ve done a lot of yoga during this quarantine, but I really wanted to start doing more to get my body moving. I haven’t done a lot of dancing since the theatre industry shut down, for lack of space and lack of motivation. Recently, I started following Megan Bowen and her business Dance From Home and I just finished her 14 Day Get Up and Dance Challenge! It included dance cardio workouts, strengthening workouts, and self-love exercises, and I’m so proud of myself for finishing it! It felt amazing to get my body moving on a regular basis and begin to love my body and meet it where it’s at. Typically during the holiday season, I slack off on moving my body and I end up feeling terrible about myself after enjoying all the holiday food. But I can honestly say that right now, I feel the best I’ve felt during this season in a LONG time! I’m ready to jump into the holidays, stay active, eat whatever the heck I want because I can, and enjoy it ALL!

Some other goals of mine were:

  • Try not to spend unnecessarily– I did still spend money on myself and some things I probably could’ve done without, but I did spend less than I did in October! Even small wins are still wins!
  • Keep manifesting– πŸ™‚
  • Fill out gratitude journal every night– I didn’t land EVERY night, but I only missed one or two!
  • Pick at least one day to social media cleanse– This, I didn’t do. BUT I did set limits on my social media at night/in the mornings! I love that the iPhone allows you to set time limits on apps that you choose. I set a limit for myself from 11pm-8am. Going forward, I would like to have the limit start earlier and end later!
  • Read 1-2 books– Nailed it! Unless I was feeling particularly exhausted, I would read at least 1 chapter of my book before bed (since I set the limits on my phone!).

Like I always say, every month is hit or miss in terms of reaching my goals! November was a pretty decent month for goal reaching, but there were still some marks I missed AND there were marks that I kind of hit! I’m learning to be gentle with myself, so I encourage you to practice being gentle with yourself too! Now, here are some things I’ve watched/read/loved this month!

Monthly Minute
November Round Up

TV

Schitt’s Creek

I finally finished the series this month and I LOVED it! It took me a while to warm up to the show, but I got so invested in the characters as their stories developed. I can’t say much because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t watched but I TOTALLY cried watching the final episode!

Killing Eve (Season 3)

I watched the first two seasons of Killing Eve early on in the pandemic, so I was really excited to see season 3 on Hulu a few weeks ago! Honestly, it hasn’t thrilled me, I’m not going as crazy over it as I was in season 2. I had to Google the ending of season 2 because there was no kind of recap, and I kind of feel like a third season was a little bit of a stretch. It was still entertaining; I just wasn’t as sucked in as I had been with season 2!

Grey’s Anatomy

Ok, listen. I am a devoted Grey’s fan, and while I do kind of think it’s been going on for too long, I am STILL watching. I got all caught up in the early Corona days, so I was ready when they announced they were coming back to TV. I commend the writers for their pivot into the current circumstances of 2020, it is interesting to see the medical field right now portrayed on TV. How true to the times it really is, I’m not sure. The first few episodes have really had me in my feels though. I’m excited to see where they take things.

And, of course, I’ve been watching Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelorette religiously! I love Kaitlyn Bristowe but…Nev should’ve won. There, I said it. For the Bachelorette, I’m predicting Ben, Ivan, Brendan, and Zach will make it far. Maybe Noah? They’re the top contenders in my opinion.

Books

An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

During the summer, I read The Wife Between Us by this writing duo and I LOVED the psychological thriller so much that when I saw this book on a rack at Barnes and Noble for $7 I just had to get it! They did not disappoint with this one either! I was hooked right from the beginning, always asking questions and wondering where the plot line was heading! If you love a psychological thriller, their books are for you. You will be flipping the pages so quickly searching for answers, you’ll be done reading in the blink of an eye. Then, you’ll have to pick up another one of their books like I did! I finished this book and the next day I ordered their book You Are Not Alone! Check them out!

Monthly Minute October Round Up

October Round Up

Hi friends!

Another month of 2020 in the books, which means one month closer to a brand-new year! I love October, it has always been one of my favorite months! I personally felt like the month slowed down just a little bit, which I appreciated so I could enjoy it! Like I’ve said in some of my other posts, my birthday and many of my friend’s birthdays are in October, so fortunately, the month was full of celebration and seeing some friends I hadn’t had the chance to spend a lot of time with (safely, of course!).

As you all know, I try to be as honest and transparent I can be when it comes to gathering my thoughts at the end of the month, and honestly, I felt like my routine suffered a little this month! But I guess it was a bit of an even exchange, because I think it suffered since I spent a lot of time doing things this month that I hadn’t done in months! I loved seeing friends, but of course, being out of my own house where all my routine essentials sometimes threw me for a loop. My usual laundry list of books I read and shows I watch is also short this month, since I didn’t spend as much time lounging around as I have in other months since I started the blog! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: it is ok if your routine ebbs and flows with the changing seasons of your life! If this pandemic has taught me anything, it is that nothing can truly be constant. Our worlds are ever changing, whether we want them to or not!

Last month, I talked a bit about my manifestation journey. Recently, I started manifesting with the moon cycles, and let me tell you. I feel more in tune with the universe than I have ever felt before! Putting out my wishes and goals, learning to embrace forgiveness, and practicing gratitude through manifestation honestly has changed my ways of living and thinking. Nothing is instantaneous, but I really do believe that the universe is holding me and is putting my wishes into motion. I can feel it and I can see the changes in my life already occurring. It’s amazing what a little release can do. Again, if you’re interested in manifesting, I highly recommend Yasmin Boland’s book Moonology and all of her other resources.

Something small but worth noting is the fact that I sat down to personally journal this month for the first time since August. I guess it was the first time since then that I had enough going on in my life that I wanted to document for me to remember later. The physical act of writing is something that I feel very connected to; it always centers me. Returning to that was a little thing that felt so important, and it made me want to continue to check in with myself, even in the most mundane times of my life. It reminded me that it is also important to sit with the times where nothing big is happening. It’s all just as important.

I’ve continued to set goals for myself before the start of each new month, and I’m happy to share that I did rather well in terms of achieving what I realistically could from my list! Of course, some things fell to the wayside, but it feels good to know that am on the right path towards making my goals a reality. It’s so funny to think about, because if the world hadn’t paused and my life hadn’t shifted in the way that it did, I wonder if ANY of these goals would be the goals I was aiming for? I try not to think too much about the “what could have been’s,” but it’s interesting nonetheless!

Personal growth continues to be at the forefront of my heart and mind month to month, as I share with you on the blog. I know I’ve got a long way to go, but it is the best feeling knowing that I am the same “Angela” but I am oh, so different than the girl I knew even just a year ago. It may sound clichΓ©, but it’s true. Of course, I have moments where I can feel myself reverting back to my old thought processes or ways of handling things, but it’s amazing to me that now, I am able to stop, recognize that, recognize that that isn’t how I want to be, and can try my best to make a shift. I do think there are parts of me that are inherent that I can’t and shouldn’t have to change, but anyone who knows me and loves me enough knows that I am what I am and will love me anyway.

September Round Up

September Round Up

Wake Up! September is almost over!

Thank you for indulging in my cheesy Green Day Reference.

ANYWAY!

Summer has come and gone, and we have officially made it through the first little bit of fall! I don’t know about you, but as I get older, I’m more aware of how quickly the year goes by. Things that happened last September feel like they JUST happened, and I always have to check myself and remind myself…it’s been a year, sister.

September was a great month; it was exciting in lots of new ways, but still the same-old-same-old in many ways, too. First and foremost, in addition to my lovely retail job I started a new job as a remote marketing assistant for a blogging business!!! It’s all very new and I am learning a lot, but I have loved every minute so far. I have to say, I am not anywhere NEAR where I had thought I would be at this point in the game a year ago but I do think I ended up where I am for a reason. Although actively pursuing a career in the theatre right now is not really possible, I do feel like I am continuing to grow and better myself for when that big reopening does happen (because it WILL happen). Also, this month I taught my first yoga class as my final assignment for my training! I am just about finished up, just ironing out a few logistical things, but stay tuned next month for the official announcement of my completion!

The things I choose to write about in these monthly round up posts are constantly changing, just because I don’t think I can really have a template for how life is going to play out that month and what I am going to need more/less of in my life! Some months I have had tons of time to watch TV and read books, other months I feel like I’m constantly being tugged at by work, and so on and so forth. This month, I’m going to share with you some books I read (I was actually able to read a lot), some products that have been life savers in my busy schedule, and some things I have added into my routine to make my soul a little happier!

Books

Moonology by Yasmin Boland

One of the goals I set for myself for September was to start manifesting, and coincidentally, this book is all about manifesting with the cycles of the moon. I got the book to read as part of the Simple Ayurveda online book club thinking that it was only about the moon, so I was pleasantly surprised when I got it and found out it had a lot to do with manifestation (one might say…I manifested for this…?). Boland is truly an expert in her field, and this book is a wonderful starting point for newcomers to manifesting like myself. I’m fascinated by how the moon and astrology control our lives and I have loved bringing manifestation into my life!

September Round Up

The Whisper Man by Alex North

This book was spooky. Creepy. But an absolute page turner! Full disclosure: I am a little afraid of the dark and reading this book alone in my room at night definitely left me sitting up for longer than usual. I picked this book up at Sam’s Club not thinking I’d love it, but it was such a great read. Usually, I find thrillers to be a little predictable, or I can just unravel them quickly, but this one truly kept me guessing the whole way through. The author did a beautiful job of connecting all the dots as the twists and turns unfolded. Check it out!

Untamed by Glennon Doyle

This is the book that I am in the process of reading, but so far, I love it! My mom actually read it first and wouldn’t stop raving about it, saying every young woman should read it. She kindly got me my own copy (because she knows I like to highlight and underline and all that) and I am loving how raw and honest it is so far.

TV

Ratchet (Netflix)

If you are a Ryan Murphy/ American Horror Story lover, this show is DEFINITELY for you. I am not up to date on AHS whatsoever, but I love Sarah Paulson and Finn Wittrock so I decided to give this show a shot. There are only 8 episodes up right now, but I literally started it on a Friday night and was finished by Saturday night. I couldn’t stop!!! Of course, if you’re familiar with Ryan Murphy’s work, it usually has that effect of viewers. It’s kind of so sickening and crazy that you just can’t stop watching. If you’re looking for a little thrill in your TV watching endeavors, I would 100% recommend this show!

This and That

Fringe Studio Notebooks

If you know me, you know I am a bit of a notebook snob. I have SO many notebooks laying around, but Fringe Company notebooks are 100% my favorite. All the ones I have ever used I found at my T.J. Maxx/Marshall’s/Home Goods, but you can also find a few on Amazon or on their website! The paper is amazing to write on, and I love that they have the little space for the date in the top corner of the pages. I recently got a 2-pack on mini notebooks; one is lined pages and the other is dotted! They are so perfect for on-the-go work!

Liquid I.V.

Y’all, if you follow me on Instagram you already KNOW how much I love my Liquid I.V. Hydration and Energy Multipliers!!! Seriously, the flavors are so yummy. They also just came out with 3 new flavors- watermelon, apple pie, and guava! I haven’t tried the new ones yet but I am SO ready. The sticks use CTT technology to get the goods to your bloodstream faster, hydrating you beyond belief. The Energy Multiplier works the same way AND pumps you up with natural caffeine. If you want to try out Liquid I.V. for yourself you can shop here for 25% off your purchase AND free shipping!

JustFab Shoes

I have always wanted to give JustFab a try…I took the leap and I love my shoes! I was skeptical because first of all, I have a big foot and second of all, my feet are sometimes a weird in between size, so not being able to try them on worried me. I went with my gut on the sizing, I nailed it, and the shoes are adorable. I got a cute pair of sneaker wedges and a cute pair of simple white sneakers for the transition into fall! Also sweet, when you sign up as a VIP your first pair of shoes is only $10!

I hope you had a great September and that you’re all adjusting beautifully to this chilly fall weather! I can’t wait for October, it’s my favorite month! Myself and a lot of my close friends have birthdays in October, and it always just brings me so much joy. Be on the lookout for some more posts about my passions/getting to know me as my birthday month unfolds! I hope October brings you joy, love, and abundance! Stay well, loves!

August Round Up

August Round Up

Hi everyone!

Another month of 2020 down. Sad that it’s going so fast, but one month closer to (hopefully) a better 2021! We must be hopeful!

I’ll admit, my round up for the month is a little sparse! While I went back to my part-time job at the end of last month, this month was when I got into the full swing of things and I did spend a lot of my time working. I’m grateful that I’m able to work and I enjoy the little job I have; it’s nice to have something that gets me out and gives me a little change of scenery, you know? In addition to working, I was able to spend about a week and a half this month being a member of the 24 Hour Plays: Nationals cohort as an actor! I mean this from the bottom of my heart, what an incredible experience. Not only was I able to feel like a performer again, but I learned so much, made so many new connections, and took part in meaningful work. It’s an experience that I will treasure as I move forward in my professional career, I’m grateful I had the opportunity to be part of it!

In addition to working a lot this month, I did a lot of work on my yoga teacher certification! I am VERY close to being done, and I am again, very grateful that the online training program I went with is move at your own pace. It has taken me longer to get to this point than I originally had anticipated, but I wanted to make sure I was really absorbing the material- so, thank God for that! Later in September, probably as I am finally finishing the program, I’m going to write a post that will be Part Two of my Yoga Journey post, so look out for that! I am also hoping to maybe start creating some mini classes to post on my social media for people to take at their own leisure, as well as some live classes as I get ready to get some teaching experience under my belt!

Hopefully, LOTS of new and exciting things as I continue to build and expand my brand a bit more!

Alright. This is usually the portion of my Monthly Minute post where I share the written monthly goals I had set for the month and whether or not I had accomplished them. And in an attempt to be as fully transparent with my readers and followers as possible, I am admitting that I FORGOT to sit down and write out my goals for the month! I know, you’re probably thinking, “girl, you made a WHOLE POST about setting monthly goals for yourself and now you’re slipping up?!” And I am here to say, YEP. It’s bound to happen sometimes, and the start of this month, the time when I usually sit down and write my goals out, just completely got away from me. BUT I will say, a lot of my monthly goals carry over from month to month, so having the logged memory of what I had been writing out the last few months was helpful in organically trying to be accountable for myself!

I also slacked big time on the reading front this month, I didn’t pick up a new book. I ordered a book for an online book club for the month of September at the start of this month and I realllllly had to restrain myself from starting it sooner. So, look forward for my thoughts on some books in September!

Now, let’s get to some of the stuff I enjoyed this month!

TV

  • Love on the Spectrum (Netflix): Oh. My. Lord. I loved this show so freaking much! It was just so heartwarming and genuine, I didn’t want it to end. I’m really hoping they will have other seasons in the future because I couldn’t get enough of it!
  • Ozark (Netflix)- Alright. I am a little bit behind on this one, but wow is it good. Like, CRAZY good. I am astounded by everyone’s performances every single episode. I didn’t think this was a show I was going to enjoy, but I am binge-ing it hardcore at the moment- still in season 2.
Monthly Minute
August Round Up

Podcasts

  • Yoga Girl Podcast (and Yoga Girl Daily)- First of all, this woman’s voice just soothes me. I love Yoga Girl Daily specifically because I listen to them most days on my way to work! They are only 5-8 minutes long and each day of the week has a different theme. Lots of setting intentions, reflecting, and taking steps in your daily life to better yourself!

Products

  • My Hydrapeak Water Bottle-: Listen, I don’t care WHAT kind of water bottle you get but get yourself a water bottle! Save the planet! It will also just change your life, really. Personally, I enjoy my drinks nice and cold. Lots of ice. My stainless steel Hydrapeak water bottle (from my local T.J. Maxx- go to yours, I bet they have one or one similar) keeps my drink cold ALL DAY while I’m at work. I’ll come home after a long shift and there will still be ice clanging around in there! I believe you can also put hot liquids in it as well and they’d stay hot! I decorated mine with lots of fun RedBubble stickers πŸ™‚
  • Batiste Volumizing Dry Shampoo: I love me some great dry shampoo, as I am sure many of you do as well. I’ve used the regular Batiste dry shampoo for years, but my mom just recently picked up a couple of cans of the volumizing dry shampoo and gave me one and I LOVE it! Something I’ve tried to start doing this month is training my hair (to not need to be washed as often) because honestly, it was exhausting how often I needed to wash my hair and now I’m just tired of it! I don’t know what it is about this dry shampoo that I love and is working much better than any other one I’ve used! I have naturally very straight and flat hair, so maybe I’m just finding that I like the volume! Either way, check it out!

Not too much to boast about this month, but I am happy to share that a lot of the time that wasn’t spent at work, watching Netflix or reading as much this month was spent on personal development, continued job searching/yoga work, and relaxation where I could grab it. For all of that, I am simply grateful!

July Round Up

July Round Up

Hi Friends!

I feel like I will say this every month, but I can’t believe July is already coming to a close! Summer always goes so quickly. I wait all year for these glorious three months and they are always gone in a blink! Even though I felt like this month flew by, honestly, I felt a lot less productive in my own life. I’m not really sure why I feel that way, but if I had to guess it would probably be because I didn’t have as much down time this month as I did in June to accomplish everything I had wanted to. A blessing and a curse!

Fortunately, I was able to get back to work at my part-time job this month which put some normalcy back into my life. I’m excited to start working regularly again; it’ll be interesting returning back to a “normal” busy schedule and making life work!

This month I was also lucky enough to be part of a virtual production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona with the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival’s Young Company (the position I was slated to have this summer), and it gave me so much life. Seeing my friends a couple times a week and having a dedicated space to practice our craft was much needed after months of separation/lack of work.

Diving into July’s round up, normally I would start with my monthly goals, but honestly, a lot of my goals remained the same from June! And to be candid, there was a lot of inconsistency in my goals this month. Some days/weeks, I really nailed it but many others I did not. But that’s ok! We eb and flow, and some months are just bound to be more productive than others!

Two things that I added onto my list of goals were:

  • Listening to podcasts at least one day a week
    • I accomplished this one! I listened to Black-tor, The Ensemblist, Yoga Girl: Conversations From the Heart, and Everyday Ayurveda & Yoga at Hale Pale
  • Choosing 2 days a week to seriously limit social media usage
    • This one, I didn’t do so well with (hence my post on burnout at the start of the month!). I think I was just too vague with myself, seeing as I didn’t pick 2 days right from the start. I’m going to bring this one with me into August!

Books, Movies, and More!

Monthly Minute
July Round Up

Books

One of my other goals for the month was to read 1-2 books. Here are the ones I read!

  • Sunburn by Laura Lippman
    • This book was alright! Definitely not my favorite read, but I kept reading nonetheless! The plot was a little too slow and confusing for my taste, and there wasn’t really a shocking moment until the very, very end despite its claim as “suspenseful.”
  • The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen
    • I loved this one!!! I finished it I think in four days, I couldn’t put it down! There were turns and surprises left and right, it did not end up being anything like I expected. I definitely want to explore other works of both authors since I loved this book so much!

Movies and TV (or lack thereof)

I will admit, I am the worst at watching TV and movies. You would think that as an actor I would be on top of it, but I am ashamed to say, I was not this month. (It also isn’t helpful that I have been binge watching Dance Moms as a form of entertainment– very bad). But here is what I DID watch!

  • Hamilton (duh)
    • Whatever I say about Hamilton here won’t do it justice, and most of you reading this have probably experienced this moment of speechless-ness. The artistry, athleticism, and genius just moved me to tears, several times. Watching that, I knew that theatre truly was where I belonged. (If you want to have a discussion on whether Hamilton or Burr was the bad guy, let me know).
  • We Are Freestyle Love Supreme
    • This documentary is on Hulu and if you loved Hamilton, you should certainly watch this! It follows the trajectory of the hip-hop improv group that Lin Manuel-Miranda (among many other Broadway stars) was a part of that sparked the show that came to Broadway in 2019. I marvel at the men and women that were part of the group, their talent simply is extraordinary.
  • Uncut Gems
    • Unpopular opinion: I love Adam Sandler. I thought this movie was great, and unlike anything he has ever done before! It was definitely a little slow to start, and a little strange, but the end knocked it out of the park!
  • Unsolved Mysteries
    • Crazy. Crazy. Crazy. If you love crime shows, this is 100% for you. It was only slightly unsatisfying because…they are unsolved. Nonetheless, it was very addicting!
  • Palm Springs
    • Personally, I didn’t love this movie! I thought it was a little predictable and just reminded me of Groundhog Day too much. I love Andy Samberg, I thought he was good but nothing to shout about. I thought there were a lot of plot holes and things that didn’t make sense to me, so I regret to share that it wasn’t my fave!

June Round Up

Hi, friends!

Can you believe we are already at the end of June?! It seems like a second ago I was planning out my posts for the month, and this last post was a million years away!

Monthly Minute: June Round Up
June Bullet Journal Cover

I hope you all are starting to enjoy your summer a little bit! This summer may look a little different than summers in the past, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make the most out of what you’ve got!

So, to wrap up the month of June on the blog, I figured I’d take some time to highlight and share with you all some of the things I have been doing/reading/watching/etc. this month! I am hoping to continue to do this each month to share some new info and ideas with you guys to carry into your lives throughout the year!

Let’s dive in! (Get it, dive, swimming, summer…thanks for humoring me)

My Monthly Goals

I decided at the start of this month to sit down and evaluate my goals for the month. Big or small, I wanted to go into a new month with a clearer view on what I hoped to accomplish and a better sense of direction (personally and in terms of the blog). The list wasn’t long (and I’ll admit, not all of the goals were accomplished) but having this physical list did really help me stay more accountable than I have been in the past! Here are the goals I set out to accomplish this month:

Monthly Minute: June Round Up
My sweet yoga set up
My morning yoga set up!
  • Sing Every Day!- This is something that I incorporated into my habit trackers in my bullet journal this month! I wanted to set this goal for myself because as a performer, my voice is one of my instruments and tools that I need to be ready to call upon at any given moment. Admittedly, when I had to come home due to the pandemic, singing made me sad for the first time in my life. I wasn’t singing or vocalizing every day, and when I would sing it was clear to me that my instrument was not in tip-top shape. I’m happy to say that I only noted one day this month where I did not sing or vocalize at all!
  • Do Yoga Every Day!- Setting this goal came out of me hoping to start my Yoga Teacher Training this month, and wanting to make sure my body was in constant practice as I continued learning. I accomplished this goal!!
  • Be Up By 9AM Most Days- Most days, I was up by 9! As the month went on, I found it easier to get up earlier. There was one week where I really threw this goal out the window, but I was listening to my body asking for some more rest! That’s important to note: having goals is great, but when they are in relation to your physical and mental health LISTEN TO YOUR BODY/MIND!
  • Read 1-2 Books This Month (Ideally, 2)- This, I did! I love reading, so it wasn’t too hard. When I was finishing up school, I didn’t have a lot of time to read. Thankfully, I had more time this month!
  • Make and Keep A Spending Spreadsheet- I did this….did I like blatantly seeing the money I was spending vs. the money I was earning….not so much! BUT I felt like this was a good habit I needed to get into since I’m trying to be an “adult” now

Those were the big June goals! For the blog, I had hoped to partner up with at least one more brand as an ambassador…but you might have to wait a month to hear how that worked out!

Now, let’s talk about some of the things I read and watched this month that I really loved!

June Books

My June Reading List
  • Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid- So, I actually finished this book in May, but I loved it so much that I wanted to share. Reid is a Philly based author, and her debut novel was Reese’s Book Club February pick as well as a New York Time’s Bestseller! I only wish I had picked it up sooner. A little blurb: “With empathy and piercing social commentary, Such A Fun Age explores the stickiness of transnational relationships, what it means to make someone “family,” and the complicated reality of being a grown-up. It is a searing debut for our times.”
  • Year of the King: An Actor’s Diary and Sketchbook by Anthony Sher– I am WAY behind on this one, but this book is a MUST for my fellow actor/performer friends. It was extremely relatable and personal; I loved every second. The book chronicles Anthony Sher’s journey toward becoming Richard III with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1984. It was fascinating to have a glimpse into the mind of an incredible actor.
  • White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard For White People To Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo- This is an extremely important read. The title itself is self-explanatory regarding the content of this book. This was a required reading for a course I took in the fall, but I decided to go back and re-read it this month in much more depth, and I am so glad I did. DiAngelo does an incredible job of laying out what exactly White Fragility is and providing readers with the tools to examine their own whiteness and facilitate further important discussion regarding racial attitudes. Do yourself a favor and get this one.
  • In Five Years by Rebecca Serle- The perfect summer beach read. I got it on a Tuesday and finished it by Friday. I am excited to read more of Serle’s work in the coming months! A little blurb: “In Five Years is an unforgettable love story, but it is not the one you’re expecting. Expertly paced, finely observed, and utterly heartbreaking, this is a book readers will not be able to put down.” THAT IS TRUE!

Movies and TV

I will be the first to admit- I definitely do not watch enough movies OR TV, but I am working on it! I was pretty proud of the progress I made on that front this month, so here’s to that! I was fortunate enough to have many of the tools at my disposal to continue to educate myself on the BLM Movement as well, and I learned very much through watching many of these. Here’s to a continued education for the rest of forever! Here is my watch list and where you can watch them too:

Monthly Minute: June Round Up

  • The Goldfinch (Amazon Prime)
  • When They See Us (Netflix)
  • When They See Us Now (Netflix)
  • 13th (Netflix)

I will admit, I have never watched Dance Moms and I did also watch the first season of that this month, but I’m a little too behind to be sharing that with others as something to watch….

ANYWAY

That’s my June Monthly Minute! If you’ve already checked out some of these books, movies/documentaries, or if you check them out in the future, I’d love to hear your thoughts! I hope that the month of June brought you the gifts of joy, education, and fulfillment! And you know what, if it didn’t, how beautiful is it that July is right around the corner and you have another chance to reach your highest potential? Pretty beautiful if you ask me!

Thank you for a wonderful first full month on the blog, I have had so much fun sharing content with you all! I can’t wait to see what July will bring!
