Shackets

The shacket trend came back around last year and is probably one of the hottest pieces of clothing to have this Fall season. These pieces look like a shirt but can double as a jacket or layering piece over a top or even a cute dress! A shacket is the perfect thing to have in your wardrobe as a transitional piece- especially now when it’s usually too warm for a heavy jacket but too chilly to go without a coat at all. The downfall with shackets? They tend to be SUPER expensive. That’s why I really love these shackets I found from Walmart! One of these shackets is the most expensive item you’ll find in this post- and even then it’s under $50!

Denim Jackets

A denim jacket is DEFINITELY a staple you should have in your closet almost all year round but especially in the Fall! Similar to a shacket, I love to throw on a denim jacket when I need something not too heavy but not too light! If it’s still pretty warm where you are, throw a denim jacket on over a dress meant for Summer and bam, you’re ready for Fall. Walmart has a ton of affordable denim jackets for just about everyone’s style! These are a few of my favorites from the site, but they come in so many different styles, textures, and patterns!

Fashionable Sweatshirts

Sweatshirts are hands down my favorite piece of clothing to wear once Fall hits! I have so many that I’ve recently had to really restrain myself from buying anymore. I’m not kidding when I say half of of the sweatshirts I own are the Time and Tru crewneck sweatshirts from Walmart! They come in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and styles…which is why I own at least 6 of them! You literally cannot beat the price either! I love to dress them down with just a pair of leggings or sweatpants at home or dress them up a bit with a pair of jeans, leggings and a denim jacket, and some cute jewelry to spice it up a bit!

Cardigans

Ask anyone I know, I love to layer in the Fall. Typically, a go-to outfit of mine consists of leggings, sneakers, a t-shirt, and a big ‘ol cardigan to keep me warm! Walmart has a great variety of cardigans from a more traditional style, ones with gorgeous fringe, plaid slouchy-options, and even some cozy ponchos! I don’t know about you, but I LOVE that ponchos are coming back. Whether you’re adding a cardigan to a layered outfit or just carrying it with you in case you get chilly throughout your day, a cardigan is definitely a necessity as we head into chillier days!

Sweatshirt Dresses

Like most people- I hate pants. My closet is FULL of dresses because I’m obsessed-especially with sweater dresses. If you feel like early Fall days are too soon for a thicker sweater dress, these sweatshirt dresses from Walmart are the PERFECT compromise! They are a sweatshirt material, just like the Time and Tru sweatshirts I shared above that are my fav, so you know I had to get a dress, too! I recently wore one with a cute pair of sneakers and it was a perfect, easy outfit for a busy day! P.S. THEY HAVE POCKETS

How to Get in the Mood for Fall

How to Get in the Mood for Fall

How to Get in the Mood for Fall

How to Get in the Mood for Fall + 5 FREE Mood Boards to Get You There

Happy September, babes! I can’t believe we are only a few weeks away from the first REAL day of Fall! This week’s post is all about how to get in the mood for fall!

If you’ve been here with me for a minute, you know that I’m a summer girl through and through! To me, September always marks the end of my favorite season. While I love Fall for all its own reasons, September is always bittersweet. Until the leaves start to change and the weather gets chilly, I have a really hard time getting in the right headspace for fall. If you find yourself feeling the same way, here are a few ways to get in the Fall spirit!

Make a Fall Bucket List

Making a bucket list for the Fall is one of the easiest ways to get excited for the change of seasons! There are so many fun Fall activities to do throughout September-November. There’s apple picking, going to a pumpkin patch, corn mazes, fall wine festivals, pumpkin carving…the list goes on and on! Think about what you want to do most during the season, who you want to do those things with, and write it all out!

No matter where you live, every local spot is bound to have some fun fall activities happening throughout the season! Get online and look up if your area has any fun Fall activities happening. I love to hop on Facebook and scroll through event that are happening locally or in places close to me!

Switch Up Your Wardrobe

Get that closet ready for Fall, babe! Nothing gets me more excited for chilly weather than breaking out my big sweaters and long sweatshirts. Even though the weather likes to play tricks on us through September sometimes, breaking out your Fall basics will definitely get you prepping for those chillier days! Now that we’re post-Labor Day, it may be safe to pack up the swimwear and break out some transitional pieces,

You may be able to get away with keep some Summer clothes out for a bit longer by throwing on hats, denim jackets, shackets, and a cute pair of booties! This is a great compromise- holding on to Summer while slowly working Fall into our lives!

Bust Out the Fall Decorations

Seasonal decor is the perfect way to bring the Fall feeling into your life via your living space! Everywhere you turn in almost every store you go in now is FULL of fun Fall signs, trinkets, and more (they may even have Christmas things out already)! How you choose to decorate is totally up to you and your style! If you just generally love fall, decorate in general Fall decor. Is Halloween your jam? Bust out those Halloween decorations ASAP! If seasonal decorations aren’t really your thing, maybe this just means busting out your Fall scented candles and creating ambiance that way!

Put Together a Fall Mood Movie/Book List

Seasonal movies and books are the perfect way to get in the fall spirit! Freeform does their 31 Nights of Halloween, filling the day with tons of spooky movies to get ready for Halloween. But September is never too early to start if you’re a real Halloween lover! Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, The Addams Family, Tim Burton movies, horror movies- all are the typical movies I think of when I think of this season!

If you’d rather read to get in the fall spirit, check out this list of reads to get you in the mood for Fall by the Perpetual Page Turner!

Enjoy the Outdoors

One of the best ways to get in the mood for Fall is to be in the seasonal change itself! Get outside- go for a walk, hike, take your book or journal outside, picnic, etc. Enjoy being outdoors and witnessing the change of the seasons first hand! As bittersweet as it feel for me personally, it is always really beautiful to have to slip on a jacket and see the leaves changing.

Make a Fall Mood Board

If you’re looking to create a certain aesthetic in your decoration or holiday prep OR are just looking to bring a certain vibe into your life this Fall- make a fall mood board! Or several! I recommend starting on Pinterest. Make a board dedicated to the Fall aesthetic you’re looking to create or embrace. I like to search terms like ‘pink fall aesthetic,’ ‘neutral fall aesthetic,’ or ‘Halloween aesthetic.’ Terms like these are likely to bring up images that will be aesthetically pleasing, cohesive, and easy to piece together.

You can use any photo collage app to put your mood board together. I like to use Canva! On Canva, you can find tons of free mood board templates that will make putting the board together easy and beautiful!

Monthly Minute October Round Up

October Round Up

Hi friends!

Another month of 2020 in the books, which means one month closer to a brand-new year! I love October, it has always been one of my favorite months! I personally felt like the month slowed down just a little bit, which I appreciated so I could enjoy it! Like I’ve said in some of my other posts, my birthday and many of my friend’s birthdays are in October, so fortunately, the month was full of celebration and seeing some friends I hadn’t had the chance to spend a lot of time with (safely, of course!).

As you all know, I try to be as honest and transparent I can be when it comes to gathering my thoughts at the end of the month, and honestly, I felt like my routine suffered a little this month! But I guess it was a bit of an even exchange, because I think it suffered since I spent a lot of time doing things this month that I hadn’t done in months! I loved seeing friends, but of course, being out of my own house where all my routine essentials sometimes threw me for a loop. My usual laundry list of books I read and shows I watch is also short this month, since I didn’t spend as much time lounging around as I have in other months since I started the blog! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: it is ok if your routine ebbs and flows with the changing seasons of your life! If this pandemic has taught me anything, it is that nothing can truly be constant. Our worlds are ever changing, whether we want them to or not!

Last month, I talked a bit about my manifestation journey. Recently, I started manifesting with the moon cycles, and let me tell you. I feel more in tune with the universe than I have ever felt before! Putting out my wishes and goals, learning to embrace forgiveness, and practicing gratitude through manifestation honestly has changed my ways of living and thinking. Nothing is instantaneous, but I really do believe that the universe is holding me and is putting my wishes into motion. I can feel it and I can see the changes in my life already occurring. It’s amazing what a little release can do. Again, if you’re interested in manifesting, I highly recommend Yasmin Boland’s book Moonology and all of her other resources.

Something small but worth noting is the fact that I sat down to personally journal this month for the first time since August. I guess it was the first time since then that I had enough going on in my life that I wanted to document for me to remember later. The physical act of writing is something that I feel very connected to; it always centers me. Returning to that was a little thing that felt so important, and it made me want to continue to check in with myself, even in the most mundane times of my life. It reminded me that it is also important to sit with the times where nothing big is happening. It’s all just as important.

I’ve continued to set goals for myself before the start of each new month, and I’m happy to share that I did rather well in terms of achieving what I realistically could from my list! Of course, some things fell to the wayside, but it feels good to know that am on the right path towards making my goals a reality. It’s so funny to think about, because if the world hadn’t paused and my life hadn’t shifted in the way that it did, I wonder if ANY of these goals would be the goals I was aiming for? I try not to think too much about the “what could have been’s,” but it’s interesting nonetheless!

Personal growth continues to be at the forefront of my heart and mind month to month, as I share with you on the blog. I know I’ve got a long way to go, but it is the best feeling knowing that I am the same “Angela” but I am oh, so different than the girl I knew even just a year ago. It may sound cliché, but it’s true. Of course, I have moments where I can feel myself reverting back to my old thought processes or ways of handling things, but it’s amazing to me that now, I am able to stop, recognize that, recognize that that isn’t how I want to be, and can try my best to make a shift. I do think there are parts of me that are inherent that I can’t and shouldn’t have to change, but anyone who knows me and loves me enough knows that I am what I am and will love me anyway.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Me

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Me

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Me!

Happy Scorpio Season, Babes!

October is my favorite month of the year for many reasons, but mostly because it’s my birthday month! Aaaand- tomorrow is my birthday!!

If you’re relatively new to Beyond the Footlights, here’s your chance to get to know me a little bit better! I’m celebrating this year by sharing 10 fun facts about myself with you! Spoiler alert: some of them are GOLD, so you’re welcome!

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Me

1. I Am Obsessed with Deer and Squirrels

This one requires some back story. So, do y’all remember when the deer filter was hot back on Snapchat? The original one, like five years ago? Well, I used to use that filter and make funny (well, I thought they were funny) videos as “Bambi in the Forest.” AKA Bambi from the Disney movie. Now, my friends and I STILL quote these videos, as they were completely relatable (duh). And I’ve loved deer ever since! Squirrels, I honestly can’t tell you where that came from. We see a lot of squirrels in my backyard at home and I just think they’re so cute! I always stop for the little guys when they go running through the streets. Save a squirrel life, people!

2. I Want to Write a Book One Day

This book worm wants to write a book one day! I think I’d like to write something nonfiction or something personal, because I don’t think fiction is my thing. But hey, you never know! All I know is that I love to write. I love the act of writing, I love thinking things up, and I love producing something of my own. That was a major reason why I wanted to start a blog! I wanted to be able to write about subjects I was passionate about, simply because I loved it so much! I’d love to maybe write something inspirational for young girls one day. Hmmm…

3. If I Wasn’t A Theatre Maker, I’d Probably Be a Teacher

I always knew deep down that I would go to college for theatre, but to appease the more “traditional” thinkers around me, I DID entertain the thought of becoming a teacher. My mom is a teacher and I love kids, so it was something I thought I might really enjoy. For a while I thought I wanted to be a Spanish teacher…then I realized that was a no from me. Since I’ve been home during the pandemic, I have actually been working as a substitute teacher! It’s been kind of nice to experience one part of teaching first hand to see if it’s actually something I would want to do in my life. I can confirm that I DO still want to teach at some point…just not right now LOL

That’s me, the chipmunk

4. I’ve Met The Jonas Brothers

Yes, ladies and gents, that is correct. Little 10-year-old me met the Jonas Brothers on their Burning Up Tour back in 2008! My godmother’s husband actually won the tickets and backstage passes on a radio contest! Funny enough, I had actually heard the call on the radio at the time that he won, and sure enough it was him! I’m a Nick girl, and when it was our time to meet them I went straight for Nick, hugged him around the middle, and then I spontaneously combusted. I will put an embarrassing photo here for us all to enjoy together, but it was probably the best day of my 10-year-old life.

5. Chips Are My Weakness

I. Love. Chips. I mean really, it is probably a problem how much I love chips. I could just sit and devour an entire bag myself. Pringles? Forget about it. I will eat that whole can myself. Will I feel shame? Only a little. Will I be happy? Hell yes. I can’t really pinpoint a favorite for you because I go through phases, but Doritos are a solid go-to at any time.

6. I’m Afraid of Puppets, the Dark, and Heights

Yes. Puppets, heights, and the dark. I’ve talked through the puppet thing so much with so many friends and I just can’t nail down the reason I’m afraid of them. Some puppets are ok…like I won’t get TOO freaked out. Marionettes though? No. No no no no no. In the dark, I always just feel like there is someone or something lurking behind me. I will flip on every single light in my path. And heights just make my stomach drop into my butt. I’m so afraid of falling, it freaks me out! Congrats, now you know my fears.

7. I LOVE Billy Joel, and You Can’t Tell Me Otherwise

Shout out to all of my friends who have ever driven around with me in my car, because all I listen to is Billy Joel CDs. Freshman year of college, I was studying in my dorm and I just needed some background music. I put on a Billy Joel playlist from YouTube and the rest is history! Billy Joel’s music always played in my life growing up, but once I got to college I fell in love his genius. Billy Joel songs really were the soundtrack of my college career. Every joyful moment, every heartbreak, every love was colored with some Billy Joel. For that reason, his music holds a special place in my heart. “She’s Always A Woman” is my #1 favorite Billy Joel song!

8. I Can’t Ride a Bike…

You read it right. I cannot ride a bike. When I was little, I tried to learn and I ran into the side of my dad’s truck, fell, and I decided I didn’t need to know how to ride a bike. And it’s true, I really don’t need to know how. I’ve made it 24 years and I’m doing just fine! Almost every boyfriend I’ve ever had has said “I’ll teach you!,” yet here I sit. Unable to ride a bike. It was my mission to learn during the pandemic when we were all stuck at home, but that was a fail. I’M AFRAID TO FALL, OK? I’ve accepted this is a skill I just don’t need to have in my toolbelt.

9. My Top 3 Enneagrams are 3, 1, and 6

At some point in college, I had taken the enneagram quiz and my top two were 6 and 4. Recently, as part of an interview, I had to take the quiz again and my top 3 were 3, 1, and 6! So, I’m The Achiever, The Perfectionist, and The Skeptic. 3’s want to be successful (true), 1’s place emphasis on doing things correctly (also true), and 6’s seek security, safety, and like to be prepared (very true).

10. I’m an Extroverted Introvert

Growing up, I was definitely more of just an extrovert, but now that I’m an adult I think of myself as an extroverted introvert. I recently looked up traits of extroverted introverts and I identify with A LOT of the them. My energy level is closely tied to the environment I’m in, I find people intriguing and exhausting, I’m selectively social, some people/interactions charge me and others drain me, I can be charming (if I do say so myself) but deeply introspective, and it takes me less energy to say what’s on my mind than make small talk. I read this list and couldn’t believe how spot on it was. So, all my extroverted introverts out there, I’m sending you some love!

There you have it, 10 things you maybe didn’t know about me! Now when you see me in person, you’ll have plenty to tease me about!

I am so grateful for all that the last year has brought me and I can’t wait to see what 24 brings! I’ve got some really exciting things coming up in my career as an artist- I can’t wait to share them with you! Thank you all for your constant love and support! This Scorpio sends you love!
