How to Get in the Mood for Fall + 5 FREE Mood Boards to Get You There
Happy September, babes! I can’t believe we are only a few weeks away from the first REAL day of Fall! This week’s post is all about how to get in the mood for fall!
If you’ve been here with me for a minute, you know that I’m a summer girl through and through! To me, September always marks the end of my favorite season. While I love Fall for all its own reasons, September is always bittersweet. Until the leaves start to change and the weather gets chilly, I have a really hard time getting in the right headspace for fall. If you find yourself feeling the same way, here are a few ways to get in the Fall spirit!
Make a Fall Bucket List
Making a bucket list for the Fall is one of the easiest ways to get excited for the change of seasons! There are so many fun Fall activities to do throughout September-November. There’s apple picking, going to a pumpkin patch, corn mazes, fall wine festivals, pumpkin carving…the list goes on and on! Think about what you want to do most during the season, who you want to do those things with, and write it all out!
No matter where you live, every local spot is bound to have some fun fall activities happening throughout the season! Get online and look up if your area has any fun Fall activities happening. I love to hop on Facebook and scroll through event that are happening locally or in places close to me!
Switch Up Your Wardrobe
Get that closet ready for Fall, babe! Nothing gets me more excited for chilly weather than breaking out my big sweaters and long sweatshirts. Even though the weather likes to play tricks on us through September sometimes, breaking out your Fall basics will definitely get you prepping for those chillier days! Now that we’re post-Labor Day, it may be safe to pack up the swimwear and break out some transitional pieces,
You may be able to get away with keep some Summer clothes out for a bit longer by throwing on hats, denim jackets, shackets, and a cute pair of booties! This is a great compromise- holding on to Summer while slowly working Fall into our lives!
Bust Out the Fall Decorations
Seasonal decor is the perfect way to bring the Fall feeling into your life via your living space! Everywhere you turn in almost every store you go in now is FULL of fun Fall signs, trinkets, and more (they may even have Christmas things out already)! How you choose to decorate is totally up to you and your style! If you just generally love fall, decorate in general Fall decor. Is Halloween your jam? Bust out those Halloween decorations ASAP! If seasonal decorations aren’t really your thing, maybe this just means busting out your Fall scented candles and creating ambiance that way!
Put Together a Fall Mood Movie/Book List
Seasonal movies and books are the perfect way to get in the fall spirit! Freeform does their 31 Nights of Halloween, filling the day with tons of spooky movies to get ready for Halloween. But September is never too early to start if you’re a real Halloween lover! Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, The Addams Family, Tim Burton movies, horror movies- all are the typical movies I think of when I think of this season!

Enjoy the Outdoors
One of the best ways to get in the mood for Fall is to be in the seasonal change itself! Get outside- go for a walk, hike, take your book or journal outside, picnic, etc. Enjoy being outdoors and witnessing the change of the seasons first hand! As bittersweet as it feel for me personally, it is always really beautiful to have to slip on a jacket and see the leaves changing.
Make a Fall Mood Board
If you’re looking to create a certain aesthetic in your decoration or holiday prep OR are just looking to bring a certain vibe into your life this Fall- make a fall mood board! Or several! I recommend starting on Pinterest. Make a board dedicated to the Fall aesthetic you’re looking to create or embrace. I like to search terms like ‘pink fall aesthetic,’ ‘neutral fall aesthetic,’ or ‘Halloween aesthetic.’ Terms like these are likely to bring up images that will be aesthetically pleasing, cohesive, and easy to piece together.
You can use any photo collage app to put your mood board together. I like to use Canva! On Canva, you can find tons of free mood board templates that will make putting the board together easy and beautiful!
